Note	Heldendicht. Sino-Maleise literatuur. According to Hooykaas the syair is based on "Sair Abdul Muluk." It was said that it took Lie Kim Hok seven years to write it. The syair is an epic, a story in rhyme, consisting of 1594 four-line stanzas. It is more romantic than realistic, created out of a very strong imagination. The language is rich, flowing, fresh and animated. Unlike other Chinese Malay poems in which non-Malay words are used, the vocabulary in the syair is almost completely Malay.- In: Chinese Malay literature of the Peranakan Chinese in Indonesia 1880-1942 / by John B.
