Leiden University Libraries Digital Collections

Western Medieval Manuscripts

This digital collection comprises codices and fragments dating from the Middle Ages and mostly written in Latin script (some in Greek and Cyrillic script).
Two thirds of the items that were digitized belong to the Codices Bibliothecae Publicae Latini (BPL) or to the loan collection of the Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde (LTK). The other items belong to the following subcollections: Codices Bibliothecae Publicae Graeci (BPG), Codices Ablaingiani (ABL), Burmanniani (BUR), Gronoviani (GRO), Lipsiani (LIP), Oudendorpiani (OUD), Perizoniani (PER), Ruhnkeniani (RUH), Scaligerani (SCA), Vossiani Chymici (VCF, VCQ), Vossiani Germano-Gallici (VGG) and Vulcaniani (VUL).
Barring a few exceptions, the Codices Vossiani Latini and Codices Vossiani Graeci & Miscellanei are not included in this digital collection. They have been digitized in collaboration with Brill Publishers and are part of BrillOnline Primary Sources. Free access to this platform is limited to Leiden users with a valid library card (ULCN login via the online catalogue).
