Note | Binding: Medieval binding, contemporary (c. 1525, England). - Leather (brown, blind-tooled) over pasteboard. With panel stamps depicting Saint George fighting the dragon and the baptism of Christ, and texts "S(AN)C(T)US GEORGI(US) I R" and "HIC EST FILIUS MEUS DILECT(US)". I.R. stands for the London bookbinder John Reynes. Traces of closing ties (2x2, red ribbon). - Former endpapers (fragments from a 13th-century parchment codex containing Justinian's Institutiones with Accursian gloss) now kept as BPL 2641: 41. |
