Note | Worker Poetry is one of several early 21st-century publications by and about precarious workers in postsocialist China. With Wu Ji and Shengzi among its core contributors, Worker Poetry is explicitly motivated by class consciousness and wary of being "literarified" (and coopted) by literature as primarily an aesthetic enterprise. Worker Poetry and its associated WeChat account have an explicitly internationalist outlook. Worker Poetry exemplifies how unofficial publishing establishes lateral linkage between divergent types of cultural production, from elite to subaltern. |
