Abstract | Stone tools from the Late Paleolithic. from left to right: Four backed blades, two scrapers and a hammerstone. Kashiwagayanagaasa Site, Kantô region. Regional differences in stone tools of the Late Paleolithic are at least caused by differences in the stone material from which they were made. In the Kantô region tools were made from obsidian and in the west of this region from sanukite. Obsidian was found in the mountains around Wada mountain-pass and around Izu Peninsula at Kozushima Island in the Pacific Ocean.
