Abstract | Reconstructed quernstone and grinding stone with acorns. Acorns must be processed to remove the tannic acid before they can be consumed. Jomon people probably ground nuts and made them into dumplings. Such dumplings are occasionally carbonised, perhaps as a result of being dropped in the fire, and survive in archaeological contexts. |
