Abstract | Excavations at Itaiteragatani (also Itaiteragaya) Site, Hyôgu-ken. Stone tools are distibuted in the central area which had been a paleolithic settlement. The grey ground around this area is a peat layer and had been marsh land. Stone implements found at Itaiteragatani are dated between 30,00 to 25, 000 BP. and were found partly above the Aira Tanzawa (AT) ash layer and partly below this layer. In the peat layer could be recognized remains of Abies sp. and Picea sp. which are characteristic for a cold climate. Pollen analysis could even show the recovery of the environment after volcanic ash had covered the area. |
