Abstract | The excavated area of Yoshinogari settlement with reconstructed storage structures. The Late Yayoi storehouses at the bottom are situated to the left of the outer moat. Some of the nearly fifty elevated storage houses are reconstructed. They were much larger than the average storehouses of the Yayoi period, which were about half as long. It is thought that it were the central storehouses of the whole area dominated by Yoshinogari. The buildings were maintained continuously from the second half late Yayoi to the latest phase of the Yayoi (2nd-3th century). Excavations in 1997 indicated that to the west of these storage buildings there was a second moat which could have surrounded them. Yoshi |
