Abstract | Angin fabric fragment. Early Jomon. H. 4,8 cm, W. 7,5 cm. Three warp threads and 2,5 woof threads per 1 cm. The fabric gives the wrong impression of being knitted. Below: the reverse. Ondashi Site, Takahata, Okitama-gun, Yamagata-ken. Yamanashi-ken Board of Education. A dozen examples of angin work have been found from Hokkaidô to Central Japan and on more than 130 pottery vessels traces of fabric are known. These imprints come mainly from Kyûshû and Central Japan and especially from the provinces Ishikawa and Toyama. Examples of plain weaving rather rare. Fabric of the Jomon period called angin looks like knitting work but is made with a simple form of weaving in which two warp threads |
