Abstract | Bronze bell nr.5 type 1. H. 21,7 cm, W. 9,6 cm. D. 12,6 cm, 1,17 kg. Early-Middle Yayoi. Kanba Kôjindani Site, Hikawachô, Shimane-ken. The bronze bell is one of six which were discovered in 1985 together with sixteen spear blades in a pit on a remote mountainside overlooking the Kanba valley. Type I is the oldest kind of Yayoi bronze bells and still near the small Korean bells which were the archetype of these Japanese bells. The arch for suspension is decorated with a saw-tooth pattern, the body of the bell with a horizontal band decoration. the bell showed clear traces of usage. The bell was equiped with a clapper.
