Abstract | Sôjiyama Site, Kagoshima Town, Kagoshima-ken. The Incipient Jomon settlement Sôjiyama Site, dated around 12,000 BP, was discovered in 1990 at 80 meter above sea level on the slope of a hill overlooking Kinkô Bay in the southern part of Kagoshima Town. Around two central pit dwellings various remains were found, among them three pits dug in the ground, two groups of boulders, several hearths, around 800 sherds of ryûtaimon-pottery and stone implements (arrowheads, polished axes, plates). |
