A copy of a story concerning a baker of Cairo called Nu‘man who was unable to explain the meaning of certain Koran passages to his son. After having travelled to Damascus, he found a jar full of gold which he offered to the Sultan. He was allowed to keep it after the latter had chanced upon the Koran text ‘hdzd min ‘anda Allah ‘ala an-nu ‘man’. Thus God had made Nu’man realize the importance of respect for the holy text.
