lowed by a brief treatise on book-keeping entitled Usiil-i defterf (ff. 109b-117a) by the same author, as well as an index (117a). The titles of both are found in a heading preceding the text; the author is mentioned on the title page, where he is also identified as the owner of the manuscript (47a). The work, including the appendix, was printed nine times in Istanbul from 1286 (1870-1) onwards, and was written for use in secondary schools (mekatib-i rüydïye, cf. 47a). This copy was probably based on a printed version: the sentence 'tab've ne$ri imtiyazi mü’ellifine mahsüsdur’ is found on the ‘title page’. The copy also looks like a printed work at first sight. No other manuscript copies seem to be documented. The work consists of an introduction (47b-48a) and nine chapters (bab). The text contains tables and examples of calculations (see plate).
