Generally speaking, Jaya Baya is a personage of popular Javanese historical literature, whereas Kabar Kiyamat texts belong to the sphere of religious communities. Referring to coming political events in a near future, and mentioning dates, Jaya Baya prophecies published in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were several times superseded by the facts of history: at the date mentioned in the text nothing happened. That did not stand in the way of authors: new prophecies referring to a later date were published and probably as readily believed by a credulous public as the pre ceding ones.
