The text contains the tale of Madhi, son of the ruler of Mahgribi, and Askiah, daughter of the ruler of Persia who at the instigation of her stepmother was banished together with her sister; both sisters fall into the hands of Princess Tharfah as slaves; on a hunting trip Madhi meets Tharfah, who forces him to marry her; he frees the two sisters after killing Tharfah; in his wanderings he marries two other women and brings them to Persia, where the lover of the stepmother and subsequently the stepmother herself are stoned to death; Madhi marries Askiah and his companion marries her sister; Madhi becomes ruler of Persia, begets a daughter, but longs for his parents and goes back to them, he returns to Persia after agreeing to his father being succeeded by his younger brother; his sons by his two earlier wives, unaware of their relationship, ask for the hand of his daughter but are refused; after some fighting they discover their relationship; on pp. 338-340 is a postscript by the copyist; for a detailed synopsis cf.
