The story of three sisters; the elder one, Encik Puan Tua, marries a ruler and gives birth to a beautiful daughter, Mindik, who afterwards becomes engaged to the king of Portugal; the younger sister, Encik Puan Muda, marries a raja and gives birth to a son Raja Kemboja; after the death of her husband she secretly marries a makdum (a holy man) and gives birth to a daughter, Permai Cahaya, whom she hides in a sedan chair; the makdum goes back to the forest to continue his life as ahermit, the youngest sister Encik Puan Bungsu, marries a raja at Pasir Panjang and gives birth to six sons, Sulaiman, Abdur-Rahman, Mahmud, Ali, Ahmad, and Muhammad, after the death of their parents the six princes move to live with their aunt Encik Puan Muda, one day Abdur-Rahman sees Princess Mindik in the palace garden and falls in love with her, his aunt asks her sister for Mindik’s hand for Abdur-Rahman but meets with a refusal because the girl is already engaged, and Abdur-Rahman is poor; under the spell of Permai Cahaya, Mindik leaves the palace to meet Abdur-Rahman; the prince is furious at this insult and requires a golden bridge be built from Abdur-Rahman’s place to his palace for a dowry (cf. Sejarah Melayu); with the aid of the makdum the bridge is realized, and the wedding takes place; now Raja Pertugal arrives and wages war; Abdur-Rahman, his brothers and his cousin, Raja Kemboja, defeat Raja Pertugal with the aid of Permai Cahaya; Raja Sulaiman falls in love with her; the story ends with the wedding of Sulaiman and Permai Cahaya.
