Tideman Papers (MNL)

This collection is described in Collection guide Jan Tideman (ubl229).

Jan Tideman, born in Alkmaar in 1821, was a pupil at the Latin school in Utrecht from 1834 and enrolled as a student at the university there in 1838. In 1845 he completed his studies. But from 1844 he was already curator of the Provincial Utrecht Society of Arts and Sciences. In addition to his various activities he was co-editor of the Algemeene Konst- en Letterbode (1854-1859) and De Nederlandsche Spectator (1860-1862), and he published several studies on Dutch architecture, literature and history (1888, 1892, 1894, 1895) and several poetry collections (1888, 1899).
The Jan Tideman papers were donated to the Society of Dutch Literature a few weeks before his death in 1901.
