Next to photographs, Leiden University’s photo collection contains a collection of photographic technology. Circa 1000 cameras show how photographs were made since the medium’s invention in the nineteenth century. Additionally, photographic accessories such as objectives, tripods, glass plate and film cassettes, studio and darkroom equipment, projection and viewing devices, user manuals and photographic printing papers reflect how photographs were produced and viewed. While many international trademarks and products commonly used in Dutch photography are present, the collection uniquely holds as well photographic technology which was invented and produced in the Netherlands.
